Side Panels

8-TRACK TAPE DECKS

The natural beauty of hardwoods can elevate the look of your tape deck and handle more abuse than particle board with veneer or vinyl lamination. There are many beautiful hardwoods, but not all are good for side panels. I handpick all wood to get the best results and when possible, I prefer to select wood and finishing style that will look best on a specific tape deck. Material cost can vary depending on the type of wood. Retail prices on finished side panels range from $40 – $60.

This gallery page shows you side panels that include sets available for sale. Fastener hardware is not included. If you are interested in getting a set, contact me with your tape deck model and what kind of look you want.

South American Walnut #001

The original side panels on this Pioneer H-R99 were way too thin, and basically out of proportion with the overall look. These thicker side panels made with South American Walnut and finished with a hand-rubbed tung oil finish have a great look. The last two pictures in the gallery below shows the starting thickness of the wood I start with in comparison with the original particle board panels.

South American Walnut #002

The original side panels on this Pioneer H-R99 were way too thin, and basically out of proportion with the overall look. These thicker side panels are made with South American Walnut and have a hand-rubbed danish oil finish for a great look. This set of panels is slightly darker than the tung oil finish on #001. These panels are slightly thicker and have a 1/8″ roundover edge.
